Greenhouse and Garden Photo Contest Entries - Congratulations to the Jennings Family of Sparta, NJ, our lucky winners!

The above photo was sent to us courtesy of Robert Beyer from the Hobby Greenhouse Association, and it is an excellent example of a greenhouse photo to be submitted to our Greenhouse and Garden Photo Contest. This sample photo is not an entry to our contest, and Bob writes "This was from the ice storm we had in Austin this winter. Thank God for a hobby greenhouse!"

"Unfortunately, I don't have a greenhouse, but I take immense pleasure in the plants I grow indoors. This Amaryllis 'Vera' just bloomed yesterday and looked so pretty I just had to take a picture."

"I just "inherited" a lean-to greenhouse, 16' x 4', that sits on a knee wall (that I have to build yet). The manufacturer's plate affixed to the aluminum frame indicates it was made BEFORE zipcode days! It is old, but it is now mine! One piece of the curved glass (12" x 20" that makes up the "shoulder" of the greenhouse is missing, and all efforts to find a place to get replacement curved glass has failed. So, I am now on the route to find plastic that can be molded for me or that I can mold (if I can learn the temperature required and have a source of sufficient heat (I WON'T use my kitchen oven). Early efforts to find the plastic have failed too. I am looking for ideas and sources for plastic, and I understand that Lexan (polycarbonate) is easier to mold than Plexiglas/Lucite (acrylic) and is stronger. But, strength is not an issue for this use. Can anyone help me? I have attached a picture of the greenhouse here. I took it just before my husband and I dismantled it for transport to our home. Currently, the frame is standing in the basement, and all the glass panels are stored in boxes. By the way, some of the flat panels are also broken, but I think I can get replacement flat glass at the hardware store.

Can you help me with my panel problem as well as getting a membership to the HG Association?"

"Debbie from Alberta is my friend, so I am competing against her, so I thought I'd try with another 'houseplant'. This is a true houseplant, as it is growing out of my house. I think it is a Viola macloskeyi, it came in a pot years ago from a friend, and has happily spread all over my garden."

"This is a picture of the blooms of an epiphyllum I call Big Momma. She used to put out 30 blooms or more but lost a lot of leaves in my last move. She's coming back with a vengeance."

Here is a photo of the anniversary greenhouse. The Grape supports were there so I used them as a make shift shade cloth support. All went together nicely and we have had many compliments. Thank you so much for staying on top of things.  You are great to deal with.

My husband and I drew up plans and built this greenhouse in our spare time.  I got to use it to start my vegetables for my garden this year.  It still has to have some benches and shelves in it.  We have been working on this project for 2 years.  My plumerias have started getting their leaves back on and my hibiscus is blooming.

Here is a picture of my hobby greenhouse in full operation.  Luckily, I was able to get hard to find replacement parts for my automatic vent openers from Backyard Greenhouses in order to maintain proper ventilation.  Thank you Backyard Greenhouses for your speedy service.

The engineering on the lean-to was superb.  It went together like a well oiled machine.  It goes together like a dream.
